OSRAM To Remove ‘ECO’ From Halogen Packaging

According to German TV website Das Erste, consumer groups think that “a halogen lamp is by no means environmentally friendly or ecological because it consumes a lot of energy.” And although 20% more efficient than regular incandescent, should not be considered energy saving. That term should be used for LED lamps.

Further, the article reports that German lighting manufacturer Osram has decided to remove the term ‘ECO’ from its halogen lamps. The company claim that the term was meant to indicate mercury-free. However, following an investigation, the lamps will now be referred to as Halogen Classic.
