Obituary – Lou Bedocs
I was deeply saddened to learn of the death of Lou. He was a great man, a wonderful inspiration and always had his heart in lighting. I first met him when I was an apprentice Lighting Engineer at Thorn Lighting. I had been sent to the labs in Enfield during the summer for intensive ‘on the job’ training. I worked with him on the development of the 2-D lamp and tested many ‘failures’ from which we learnt a lot. His development of the HID uplights for interiors was truly inspired and his designs won many awards. He effortlessly combined his creative and engineering talents to produce truly innovative products which are still in use today.
He always had a kind word and a smile for everyone – no matter where they sat in the corporate hierarchy. His knowledge was tremendous and he had such a passion for lighting that was infectious and gathered everyone in.
Although my work took me away from the UK many years ago, we often bumped into each other at lighting fairs and exhibitions and we always found time for a chat. Like many others around the world, I will miss this true gentleman and my thoughts and prayers go out to his family.
You can see Lou here, speaking on the 90th birthday video of Thorn.
