The Lighting Industry Academy One Year On – Have You Seen the Light?


28th September 2016 saw the Lighting Industry Academy (Academy) open its doors to the industry. Its aim being to work together with the industry to provide a hub of learning for the lighting community.

One year on and the Academy is proud to have taught over 800 students at its purpose built facility in Telford and created a learning portfolio encompassing the full spectrum of lighting..

Now revised the LIA Certificate has evolved to meet the challenges of the industry today. Its new modular format has already seen a 57% increase in students and is perfect for those embarking on a career in lighting, also those in the industry looking to further develop their skills and knowledge.

To complement the courses the Academy have an expert arsenal of tutors, from LIA professionals to some of the most respected names in the industry. All supported by Academy Ambassadors, championing the Academy’s vision and goals.

The Academy’s first year culminated in welcoming the inaugural class of its industry defining HNC in Lighting Design and Technology. This is the first qualifications at this level in the UK, taught by LIA and University of South Wales (USW) with key players such as OSRAM & Holophane Europe enrolling students.

The HNC like all the Academy’s course are structured to attract new talent and develop existing careers within all sectors of the lighting industry.
