Euroluce 2015 with FAVILLA. To every light a voice

From 14 to 19 April the biennial lighting exhibition in Italy, Euroluce, will be held in Milan as part of the world famous Salone del Mobile. It has always been considered a meeting place for the most important players and professionals in the sector but this year the Milanese fair promises to be a key event for the lighting world full of insights and information on the latest trends in the industry, as part of a series of associated events that are linked to the UNESCO International Year of Light 2015.

Euroluce continues its mission to showcase the very latest in lighting solutions for homes, offices, hospitality and the outdoors, as well as light sources and lighting design software. In true Salone tradition, Euroluce 2015 will be accompanied by a collateral event in the city centre, allowing also non-professionals an opportunity to be caught up in the magic of light.

FAVILLA. To every light a voice

From 14th to 19th April, Milan will play host in Piazza San Fedele to an installation-event open to the entire city: FAVILLA. To Every Light a Voice. FAVILLA is a story and an exploration of the essence of light. It was designed to celebrate 2015 – proclaimed the International Year of Light and Light-Based Technologies by UNESCO – chiming perfectly with Euroluce. FAVILLA. To every light a voice was conceived by the architect Attilio Stocchi, who has previously curated two stellar events for the Salone del Mobile, The Arbour (2011) and skybook (2012).
Light is often merely seen as a means of illuminating things, rather than as “light”, the bringer of its own revelation. In order to understand the intrinsic and physical nature of light and how it travels and gets to us, visitors will be treated to an immersive experience devoted to light, following a journey mapped out inside a large “black box”. FAVILLA is concealed in a large “black box” inside which light is intensified like in a crystal, producing stunning effects. It symbolises the metaphor of the geode: the discovery of a deeper internal world that generates wonder. The show will illustrate the “expression” of light, associated each time with a particular sound. Light as a person, with its states of mind, its voice. The structure of FAVILLA reflects that of the Greek tragedies, with a prologue -– dixit Deus fiat lux et lux facta est – four epeisodia, four stasima and an epilogue. The main section – the four epeisodia – illustrates the four ways in which light travels: rectilinear propagation, diffraction, reflection and refraction, revealing the wave-corpuscle duality of light (a theory beautifully expounded in Newton’s Opticks, 1704). The four epeisodia are accompanied by the stasima/intermezzi, the “vital declinations” of these technical characteristics in the natural world: sunrays, chlorophyll, photosynthesis and rainbows.
