Cree Wins IP Fight with Former Licensee

Durham-based LED giant Cree (Nasdaq: CREE) scored a small victory in its legal battle with a former licensee – Taiwanese firm Kingbright Electronic Co. The Patent Trial and Appeal Board recently dismissed a petition filed by Kingbright that claimed an LED technology at the centre of the fight was “unpatentable.”

Cree had licensed a white LED patent to the company in 2005. But that license was terminated Aug. 14, 2014.
