Amsterdam Light Festival Video

Courtesy of Rogier van der Heide, this video is an amazing and time-lapsed overview of the original art works of the 2013 – 2014 edition of the Amsterdam Light Festival.

The festival will run until 19th January 2014 so you still have chance to see this amazing show of light. I personally liked more of the artworks this time than last year because they somehow seemed more engaging and use light in clever ways. I like to watch how the audience reacts to the pieces and hear the “oohs” and “aaahs” as the colours or projections change. The amazing pace of technological developments in lighting in the last 10 years has enabled the artists and organisers of this event to deliver an awesome show.

The festival takes place every year in winter and is a venue for established artists as well as emerging talent who want to explore light, LED lighting technology and light in the city. This year, it is estimated that the festival will attract over half a million visitors of which around 100,000 will tour the festival by boat. Given the unusually mild winter we have been enjoying in the Netherlands, I can imagine that the final total will be much higher.
